Real Madrid were thrown out of the Champions League after their crushing 5-1 aggregate against Arsenal.

Madrid entered Wednesday's second-leg at home ground, Santiago Bernabeu, with a three-goal deficit following their defeat at the Emirates last week. However, Arsenal defied the odds and still beat Carlo Ancelotti's men 2-1in their home ground.

In the just 13th minute after, Bukayo Saka was handed a penalty after Mikel Merino was brought down at a corner. Saka made a ridiculous move to chip the ball but Thibaut Courtois was huge enough to counter it.

Ten minutes later , the referee awarded a penalty to Madrid after judging Declan Rice to have brought down Kylian Mbappe, but, it was cancelled after a five minute VAR check.

The Gunners had just 34 percent of the possession in the first-half as Real Madrid dominated with 66 percent.

In the 65th minute, Bakayo Saka redeemed himself with a goal taking Arsenal at a 4-0 aggregate.
Two minutes later, Saliba's blunder awarded Real Madrid a goal after, Vinicius leveraged on the opportunity.

In the 90+3 minute, Gabriel Martinelli clenched a victory for Arsenal without a tactical shot past Courtois . This marked the end with a 2-1 victory for Arsenal and a 5-1 aggregate.

The Gunners will now face PSG in the semis, as Barcelona and Inter Milan face off in the other side of the semis.

It has been 16 years since Arsenal were last in the semi-finals of the Champions League and the victory would mark the first time they are winning the UEFA cup.

After the match, the Real Madrid's goalie displayed his dissatisfaction over their play against Arsenal;

"We crossed a lot, but we didn’t have a player like Joselu," he said. "Maybe we should have crossed less and tried other things. We need to be self-critical.

"We have to be self-critical, sometimes we need to play more as a team."

On Ancelotti, he had to say: "We have zero doubt about Carlo Ancelotti.

"Arsenal were better than us, that’s why they’re through," he said, before looking ahead for the rest of the season and beyond. "We still have a long season ahead of us, the league, the final in ten days, and then the Club World Cup. We must be better," he added.

Real Madrid will now focus on La Liga being in the second place, four points behind league leaders Barcelona, with seven league games remaining to the season.

In addition , they also have a Copa del Rey final against Barca, and ,summer's Club World Cup.
