EQUITY CEO, JAMES MWANGI JOINS THE LIST OF WORLD ICONS

James Mwangi, Equity Group Holdings CEO has added another feather to his cap after being awarded the prestigious Freedom of the City of London award, one of the world’s oldest and most renowned civic honours.

This recognition joins Mwangi to the list of world icons such as Nelson Mandela, Winston Churchill, Benjamin Franklin, and former US Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower and George H.W. Bush .

Mwangi received the honours referencing to his commitment in transformative leadership , advancing financial inclusion, economic development, and academic empowerment of underserved communities across Africa .

“This honour reaffirms that purposeful leadership has the power to transform lives, unlock potential, and restore dignity to communities. It is also a global recognition that Africa’s time is now, and our stories, innovations, and people matter on the world stage, " Mwangi said while receiving the reward.

A dinner was held in London to celebrate this victory. In attendance were top dignitaries consisting of Kenya’s Trade and Investments CS, Lee Kinyanjui, High Commissioner to the UK Ambassador Catherine Wahome, and Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, Lord Jonathan Maryland.

On top of Mwangi's role as CEO Equity Group, he is also Chairman of the East and Central Africa Hub of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC), a member of the Council on Foreign Relations Global Board of Advisors, and committee member on the World Bank Group’s High-Level Advisory Council on Jobs.

This epic Freedom of the City of London award originated in the 12th century and was historically likened to a trade conducting licence within the City of London.
