Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris on Tuesday, April 22, criticized Gen Zs for posting viral images, that seemed to be teasing former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as the next Pope , after the death of Pope Francis on Monday,21, April.
During an afternoon sitting of the National Assembly , Passaris urged the youths to respect Raila and also the Catholics who are mourning the death of their Pope.
“I have seen a lot of people on social media, the ones who have no respect, painting a picture of a man who lived with God and ruled two billion people as a spiritual leader by putting Raila’s image and Raila in Pope clothes. I think that is so disrespectful,” she quoted.
“I want to tell our Gen Zs out there, you should have respect for Raila Odinga, the two billion Catholics, and the pope. He has not even been laid to rest, and you use his passing as a mockery. It is something you should be ashamed of, " Passaris added.
.
These AI generated images of Raila in Pope's regalia was probably a sort of mockery to him, following his five times fail to get the Kenyan presidency and ultimately, the most recent AU( African Union) chairmanship loss to Djibouti's, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.
This also portrays the frustration of the youths after Raila , who was viewed as the opposition leader and voice of the citizens, joined President Ruto's administration as a 'broad based outfit.'
Kimilili Member of Parliament (MP) Didmus Barasa, also expressed the same plight on Monday, 21, asking the Youths to respect Raila and the mourning Catholics.
