IG DOUGLAS KANJA REFUTES GACHAGUA'S CLAIMS ON ASSASSINATION

Police Inspector General, Douglas Kanja has finally responded to claims raised by former D
P Rigathi Gachagua who alleged a plan to assassinate him after his security was withdrawn.

In a letter dated April 15, 2025, to IG Kanja, Gachagua claimed there have been multiple attempts and a "well- orchestrated scheme" to harm him since his ouster from office in October 2024.

He also accused senior police officials of liaising with goons to attack him. Moreover, he pointed out the National Intelligence Service, ( NIS) stating that they are surveilling him and his family, contrary to their rights for privacy.

“I am being trailed by NIS operatives in unmarked vehicles, and my homes in Nairobi, Nyeri, and elsewhere have come under threat from people known to the police,” the letter stated.

In response, the National Police Service gave a statement refuting Gachagua's claims and maintaining on it's commitment to impartial security to all Kenyans.

“The attention of the National Police Service has been drawn to a letter allegedly authored by Hon. Rigathi Gachagua. The Service wishes to reaffirm its role in promoting and safeguarding national security for all Kenyans, residents, and visitors,” the statement read.

The NPS also advised Gachagua to liaise with the police force and seek more security if he feels threatened.

In his letter, Gachagua listed a series of attacks, termed as deliberate;

November 2024: Gachagua stated that his convoy was attacked by hired goons during a funeral in Limuru. He branded it a “failed assassination attempt.”

December 2024: He alleged that gangs were being escorted by police, causing chaos and dispersed his supporters and mourners.

January 2025: Gachagua claimed an interruption of a prayer service in Nyeri , led by his wife. He alleged that government known officials such as Maina Njenga was caught on camera entering with a gang, which reportedly caused the chaos.

March 23, March 29, and April 6: He cited his events and rallies interrupted by goons.

In a rejoinder, Gachagua complained that the government has turned a deaf ear on all these incidents. He further called for; Full reinstatement of his security detail, protection of all his residences, end to NIS surveillance on his family, arrests and prosecution of those behind the alleged attacks.

He also issued a caution to the IG stating that he has the right of organising peaceful rallies and was looking forward for stability in his forthcoming events.
