Interior CS , Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed his critics clarifying that he is no longer into politics , but, his focus is performing the duties delegated to him by President Ruto, in the capacity of an executive official.
“I am no longer in the political arena; I don’t engage in politics. I work under the directive of President William Ruto,” he explained.
The CS highlighted this on 8, May, trying to justify his competence as CS and his lavish lifestyle.
Redeeming his competence , Murkomen referred back to his tenure as Transport CS, where his performance was indicted based on alleged dilapidation of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) , slacken road and infrastructure projects.
However, he dismissed the claims terming them as a deliberate political move , against him in every docket he holds.
“Ever since I left the Roads docket, you will notice there has not been much talk about incompetence on the new CS,” he drew an image of an unfair criticism against him.
The Ex-Senator of Elgeyo Marakwet went on defending his track record as incumbent Interior CS despite some still questioning his competence.
“Statistics show that crimes have decreased since I became the CS for Interior, but a section of individuals have said that crime is still on the rise,” he said.
“I am here to serve and to deliver on the mandate given to me by the people of Kenya,” he added maintaining his stand to deliver regardless the opposition.
The strong ally of President Ruto also took the platform to justify his pompous lifestyle, which have constantly sparked negative reactions from Kenyans.
In a period where Kenyans are facing harsh economic conditions, Murkomen's lavish accessories have portrayed a culture of misappropriation of the tax payers money by the elite.
His Classic Fusion Ceramic King Gold watch, valued at approximately Ksh2 million ,drew the attention of Kenyans.
However, he later tried to pacify the vexed netizens by explaining that he received the watch as a gift and that it was also highly discounted.
Above that, he revealed of his Rolex watch, alleging that it costed weigh lower than the speculated Ksh 4 Million, his classy shoes worth 70 to 80 thousand and belt 40 to 50 thousand were also among his pompous wardrobe.
However, he played the victim stating that he is the most attacked despite other leaders putting on the same attire as his.
“Why am I being singled out for simply wearing shoes and shirts? Others wear the same clothes,”the embattled CS moaned.
“The only thing they talk about me is which watch, shirt, or shoe I wear, as if I’m the only one who wears those kinds of things. I want to tell those people to have an objective conversation,” Murkomen added showcasing his performance above the fashion and the criticism.
