Farmers Party leader, Irungu Nyakera, has dived into revealing the technicality of rigging the 2027 general elections, refuting the possibilities of President Ruto or anyone else stealing the August polls.
The past general elections have portrayed a track record of alleged stealing of the votes. With the most recent 2022 general elections, following the same suit.
Speaking on, Wednesday, 7, May, the former KICC boss, explained his logic in relation to the expected voter turnout come 2027.
“It’s fascinating how, whenever you ask Kenyans how Ruto plans to win in 2027 given the widespread public dissatisfaction, the answer is always: ‘he will steal it’, Nyakera stated.
“But let’s be real. Kenya is expected to have about 27 million registered voters in 2027. If 75 per cent turn out, that’s around 20 million votes cast. Now ask yourself, how many votes can really be stolen? he posed.
He continued clarifying that, depending on the number of expected votes, any slight rigging would be identified.
“Even with full control of the system, you can’t possibly steal more than a million votes without getting caught. That’s just 5 per cent of the total votes cast, and nowhere near enough to stop a public wave at the ballot,” Nyakera said .
The Farmer's Party boss further remarked that, even if President Ruto uses his state influence to select the IEBC panel, the other Kenyans involved in the electoral process will play the role of a watchdog.
“Yes, the President received the IEBC selection report yesterday. And yes, there are concerns about state capture. But even if State House handpicks the IEBC, remember that there are over 46,000 polling stations in Kenya, manned by teachers, security personnel, and everyday Kenyans. Do you honestly believe that all these people, suffering under this administration’s greed and incompetence, will just sit and watch as votes are cooked?
He went on dismissing any fears of President Ruto stealing the elections, calling for other reasonable means of winning the elections aside from rigging.
“So, to those worried that Ruto will win through rigging, relax. It won’t happen. And to those banking on that strategy, try a new plan. Better yet, deliver something meaningful to the people. They just might surprise you,” he added.
Nyakera's Farmer's Party was once under President Ruto's Kenya Kwanza Umbrella but they withdrew from the alliance following claims of being sidelined by the major.
