Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now says they will force a mini-general election once the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is reconstituted.
Speaking on Monday, February 24, Gachagua revealed that he postponed the launch of his new political party to allow IEBC to be reconstituted.
He noted that several MCAs and Members of Parliament are ready to resign from the ruling UDA party and go back to the electorate.
“We decided that we want to wait for IEBC to be constituted then we launch our party. We will have several by-elections. As of today, we have 139 MCAs who want to resign from UDA and go for by-elections, Gachagua said.
The former DP observed that Senators, MPs, and MCAs from the Mt Kenya region are ready to return to the ballot.
Gachagua encouraged them saying they would be easily re-elected and would be seen as heroes in the Mt Kenya region.
His remarks come after the IEBC selection panel announced that it received a total of 1,848 applications for the positions of chairperson and members of the commission.
The panel is set to shortlist candidates for the positions before the interviews commence in mid-March 2025.
