SENATOR CHERARGEI ASKS MATIANG'I TO EXPLAIN THE EXTRAJUDICIAL KILLINGS IN HIS TENURE AS CS

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has called out, former internal CS, Fred Matiang’i to clarify the abductions, disappearances and extrajudicial killings witnessed in the country during his regime as Cabinet Secretary for Internal Security.

On Friday, April 18, Cherargei accused Matiang'i of the heinous acts , adding that Matiang'i should be brought to book , to answer the affected families on the reasons for the enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings of their kins .

He also challenged Matiangi’s competency while he was CS , mentioning the dead bodies which were found in River Yala, Tsavo, Garissa, and in containers.

The Senator also accused the former CS of infringing the rights of the media by introducing the digital television.

“He should explain why he switched off the media by using force to switch over to digital without following the law. A threat to Media freedom,” Cherargei said.

Matiang’i came back to the country on Thursday night from the United States (US), where he has been working with the World Bank. This followed him being endorsed as Jubilee's Party Presidential candidate, being led by former president, Uhuru Kenyatta.

He was ushered back by Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo, and UDA Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba at JKIA.
