BESIKTAS SACK OLE GUNNAR WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT

Besiktas, the Turkish football giant, has parted ways with head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, just eight months into his tenure. The decision came after the team's disappointing exit from the UEFA Europa Conference League playoffs, where they lost 2-1 on aggregate to Swiss side Lausanne.
Solskjaer, who took charge in January 2025, had high hopes and expectations riding on him, but the team's lackluster performances and failure to meet targets led to mounting pressure. The final straw came with the Lausanne defeat, prompting an emergency board meeting where Solskjaer's contract was terminated.
"We have parted ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer," Besiktas announced, thanking him for his contributions and wishing him success in his future endeavors. Solskjaer took responsibility for the team's European failure, stating, "I am responsible, I am the one to blame. I take the blame."
The search for a new head coach has begun, with former Borussia Dortmund player and manager Nuri Sahin being linked to the job. Besiktas aims to restore confidence and steer the team back into title contention.
