Kenya Lionesses captain Grace Adhiambo has sent a passionate message to her teammates as they push for a coveted spot in the HSBC World Rugby 7s Series.Adhiambo, who has been instrumental in the team’s Challenger Series campaign, stressed the responsibility that comes with donning the national jersey.
"If you go out there as a Kenya Lioness, you are carrying the team; Lionesses. I do not go out there as Adhiambo.I carry my name, but I go to represent the nation and my teammates. What I do there will determine how they see my teammates in Kenya,” she stated.
“So, if you are out here, pull up your socks and work hard. Everyone is working hard, but you are representing all the Kenyans you have left behind,” she urged.
Adhiambo is marking her 10th year with the Lionesses. Her journey began in 2015, when she earned her first call-up, an achievement that validated her dedication to the sport.Over the years, she has grown into one of the team's most reliable players, bringing a wealth of international experience from her time with Japanese club Nagato Blue Angels.
Her career highlights include representing Kenya at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, playing in the WXV3 tournament, the 2024 Paris Olympics qualifiers, and multiple Challenger Series events.
The captain’s impact in the ongoing Challenger Series has been under the spotlight , having scored five tries, including a hat trick against Samoa that powered Kenya to victory during the first leg in South Africa. She further proved her prowess by crossing the whitewash twice in their final match against Argentina.In the second leg, she continued her fine form, scoring another hat trick against Belgium, before adding a crucial try against Uganda.
