"DEMOCRACY IN DANGER!" ORENGO ACCUSES RUTO OF PLOTTING TO RIG 2027 ELECTIONS

Siaya Governor James Orengo has issued a fiery warning over what he claims is a government-led plot to rig the 2027 general elections, accusing President William Ruto’s administration of undermining the independence of the electoral commission.

Speaking during a groundbreaking ceremony for the Boro Maternity Facility in Central Alego on April 30, Orengo did not mince his words:

“The last free and fair election we had in Kenya was in 2002. If we’re not vigilant, the next one will be stolen in broad daylight.”

The seasoned politician and senior ODM figure alleged that the ongoing reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is a ploy to install loyalists who would compromise electoral integrity.

Orengo went further, claiming that powerful individuals in the country have long used state machinery to deny former Prime Minister Raila Odinga electoral victory, pushing him into what Orengo branded "nonsensical" power-sharing arrangements.

“Unless we are prepared to fight for what is in the Constitution, Kenya will lose its way. I’m ready to go back to jail. I’m ready to return to the streets,” Orengo declared, invoking his history as a pro-democracy crusader.

He also took a swipe at the Supreme Court, hinting at attempts to weaken judicial independence — a move he said would endanger democracy.

Despite his criticism of Raila’s recent political engagements with President Ruto, the ODM leader defended Orengo last week, saying the governor had done nothing wrong by expressing dissent.
