Equity Bank has reported a temporary outage affecting its digital banking services, leaving millions of customers unable to access core platforms such as the Equity Mobile App, Online Banking, USSD code (*247#), and EazzyBiz.
In an official statement issued Friday morning, the bank acknowledged the disruption, citing "intermittent service downtime" across its digital channels. Technical teams have been deployed and are working urgently to restore services.
“We are currently experiencing an intermittent outage affecting our mobile, online, and other digital banking services. Our teams are working around the clock to resolve the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience caused,” the bank said.
As the disruption continues, Equity has advised customers to use alternative channels, including ATMs, agency banking outlets, and in-branch services, which remain fully operational.
Meanwhile, the bank has warned customers to remain vigilant against fraud attempts, especially during service interruptions. Customers are reminded that Equity Bank will never ask for personal information such as PINs, passwords, or OTPs through phone calls or text messages.
“Please note that Equity only contacts customers through 0763 000 000. Any other number should be treated as suspicious,” the statement added.
While the bank has not provided an exact timeline for full service restoration, it assured customers that updates would be communicated promptly through its official platforms.
This is the latest in a series of digital service challenges facing banks across the country, raising broader concerns about the resilience of Kenya’s banking IT infrastructure in the face of growing demand for mobile banking.
