Gerrard Exits Al-Ettifaq

Steven Gerrard has left his managerial role at Al-Ettifaq by mutual consent after 18 months in charge of the club. Confirming his exit earlier today, Gerrard has said that football is unpredictable and sometimes things don't play as anticipated.
"However, I leave with great respect for the club and the country. I have no doubt that the work being done will bring success in the future and I wish the team the very best for the rest of the season.
"From the first day I was warmly welcomed and I have enjoyed the chance to work in a new country with a different culture," he added.
Ettifaq club president, Same Al Misehal, has praised Gerrard, saying that he transformed the club during his year-and-a-half in charge.
"He changed the club for the better and that will never be forgotten. This decision, made with mutual respect and in agreement is in the best interest of both Steven and the club as we move forward," said Al Misehal.
After an eventful playing career at Liverpool and England, Gerrard kicked off his managerial journey with Rangers in 2018 and led the club to their first Scottish premiership title in 10 years in the 2020-21 season. He then took up managerial bags at Villa Park, succeeding Dean Smith, only to be sacked 11 months later after recording 13 wins in 40 games.
He moved to Saudi Arabia to coach Al-Ettifaq and was reportedly one of the best paid managers in world football, where he guided them to a sixth-place finish during his first season in charge. He however leaves them placed 12th in a 16-team league, having won 23 of his 59 matches in charge, with only five wins this campaign.
The former England and Liverpool midfielder had signed a two-year contract extension in January 2024, which was due to keep him at the club until 2027.
