ISHOWSPEED ALMOST IN TEARS AS HE RANKS KENYA NUMBER ONE

American streaming sensation IShowSpeed has ranked Kenya as the best destination on his ongoing African tour, citing unmatched fan energy, record-breaking livestream numbers, and overwhelming hospitality during his visit to Nairobi.

The 20-year-old content creator, born Darren Jason Watkins Jr., arrived in the country as part of his ambitious 28-day in-real-life (IRL) livestream journey across nearly 20 African countries under the banner “Speed Does Africa.” Kenya marks the 13th stop on the tour, which kicked off in late December 2025.

During a livestream watched by hundreds of thousands around the world, Speed openly declared Kenya the standout destination so far.

“We are about to hit 47.9 million. I don’t think you understand how crazy that is. No other country so far in this tour has been able to gain this amount of subs in one stream. Kenya is so far number one,” he said.

Speed’s visit received rare high-level recognition, with President William Ruto welcoming the streamer through a personal video message. In his address, the President invited Speed to experience “Magical Kenya,” describing the country as more than a destination — a pulse and a feeling shaped by its people and culture.

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano also welcomed the YouTuber, encouraging him to explore Kenya’s world-renowned attractions, including the Maasai Mara, and sample the country’s diverse culinary heritage.

The Ministry of Tourism and the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) confirmed Speed’s arrival, saying the visit forms part of a modern digital strategy aimed at showcasing Kenya’s culture, people, and landscapes to a global audience through influential online creators.

Kenya’s impact on the tour became clear when Speed’s YouTube channel crossed the 48-million-subscriber mark while he was livestreaming from Nairobi — a moment that left him visibly emotional.
“I have never felt this kind of love before,” Speed said during the livestream, struggling to hold back tears.

He repeatedly thanked Kenyan fans, saying the warmth and support he received both online and on the streets deeply touched him.

“I will never forget Kenya,” he added, noting that the experience had changed his perspective on life and content creation.

According to Speed, the Kenyan stream recorded the highest subscriber growth of the entire African tour, outperforming previous stops including South Africa, Mozambique, Botswana, Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Rwanda.

From the moment he landed, Speed’s presence brought parts of Nairobi to a standstill. Large crowds followed him across the city, prompting police deployment in some areas to manage traffic and maintain order. Authorities said the situation remained under control despite the massive turnout.

His livestream began at Upper Hill School, where students and teachers gave him an enthusiastic reception. Speed joined students for a rugby game, a spontaneous moment that quickly went viral and attracted millions of views.

He later visited Kenyatta Market, where he was met by a mammoth crowd of cheering fans hoping to appear on his stream. The excitement continued at Nairobi National Park, where Speed interacted closely with wildlife, feeding a hyena, lions, a leopard, and a cheetah.

A dramatic boda boda convoy escorted him along Lang’ata Road, a sight many fans described as historic. He later experienced Nairobi’s vibrant transport culture by riding in a matatu (nganya), taking in the city’s energy through open windows as fans cheered along the streets.

The day ended at the iconic Carnivore Restaurant, where Speed sampled a variety of meats, capping off a packed itinerary that showcased Nairobi’s diversity.

Speed’s visit also placed Kenya’s digital creators in the global spotlight. Popular prankster and content creator Vindee, who played a key role in building online excitement ahead of the tour, finally met Speed during the visit.

Videos of the meeting circulated widely online, showing the two exchanging greetings and laughter amid cheers from fans. Vindee later expressed gratitude for the opportunity, saying his support for the tour was driven by admiration for Speed’s work and a desire to showcase Kenya’s vibrant content creation scene to the world.

Speed was also stunned after meeting a Kenyan lookalike, a moment that sparked widespread reactions online and further fueled social media buzz around the visit.

Tourism officials believe Speed’s declaration of Kenya as his number one destination so far is a significant boost for the country’s global image, particularly among Gen Z and millennial audiences who follow him online.

With millions of followers across YouTube, Twitch, and other platforms, Speed’s livestreams from Kenya showcased the country’s hospitality, youthful energy, and everyday city life, challenging long-held stereotypes that portray Africa as unsafe or inaccessible.

In addition to Nairobi, Speed is expected to visit top tourist destinations such as the Maasai Mara, famous for its wildlife, sweeping landscapes, and the annual wildebeest migration that attracts visitors from around the world.

As his African tour continues, fans are eagerly waiting to see more of his Kenyan experience — from cultural interactions and street food tastings to possible collaborations with local celebrities and athletes.

For many young Kenyans, Speed’s words — “Kenya is so far number one” — has become a source of national pride, presenting the Country at the centre of global digital culture and attention.
