Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has finally decided to engage the public in his first major rally set for, Friday, 2, May.
This will be a whole day tour across the Gusii region with several stopovers.
Speaking on Wednesday, April 30, Matiang’i's Secretariat announced this event, titled ; meet-the-people tour, will be a significant political debut of the former CS after periods of silence.
"The Team Matiang'i Secretariat, responsible for coordinating the engagements of our leader, Dr. Fred Okeng'o Matiang'i, is pleased to inform the public that the former Cabinet Secretary will make his first public appearance this year in the Gusii region on Friday, May 2, 2025,” the statement highlighted.
The team also confirmed that all preparations were done and the rally is expected to attract other leaders from the region, Kisii Governor Simba Arati and Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo included.
"The visit will include a meet-the-people tour and official courtesy visits to the offices of the respective Governors of Kisii and Nyamira Counties. "
"Key stopovers during the tour: Kijauri, Keroka, Keumbu, Kisii Town, and Nyamira. This visit underscores Dr. Matiang'i's commitment to listening to the people and reconnecting with the grassroots,” the statement concluded.
Matiang'i returned to the Country on Thursday,17 , April night from the US where he was received by Jubilee Secretary General, Jeremiah Kioni.
A week later on 27, April he was invited and joined other opposition leaders in a close door meeting in Nairobi.
Matiang'i's political debut is set to receive a warm welcome from the region, with some already recognizing him as the region's kingpin. At the same time, the murky political waters are ready for Matiang'i's ripples.
