Manchester United have agreed to a new one year contract extension with third choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton, keeping him at Old Trafford until June 2026.
The 38 year-old, who returned to United in 2021 from Aston Villa , was widely expected to depart this summer after his previous deal expired. However, the club has decided to retain his services as part of its goalkeeping unit.
Manager Ruben Amorim and his coaching staff endorsed the extension, valuing Heaton’s experience and leadership despite his limited on field role. Although he serves primarily as backup and has made only a few appearances during his second spell at the club, Heaton remains a key figure in training sessions and the dressing room.
His continued presence provides much needed stability and depth behind United’s first choice goalkeepers Andre Onana and Altay Bayındır.
