ZUCHU , DIAMOND SPLIT AMID PREGNANCY RUMOURS

Tanzanian music star Zuchu has announced that her relationship with Bongo Flava superstar Diamond Platnumz has come to an end, saying the two are now separated and going through a divorce after spending six years together.

The emotional announcement was made on Sunday through Zuchu's Instagram Stories, where the Sukari hitmaker, whose real name is Zuhura Othman Soud, said she had made the difficult decision to prioritize her own well-being.
"I announce this with a heavy heart. After six years of being together, I have finally decided to choose myself," she wrote in Swahili, before wishing Diamond, born Naseeb Abdul, and his family well.

Zuchu said she now intends to focus on healing, her health and her music career.
"As for me, this is the time to heal and focus more on my health and my work. We tried, but Allah has His plans and I have no choice but to accept them. That is life. Hasbunallahu waniimal Wakiil."

The singer, however, did not disclose what led to the separation, while Diamond had not publicly responded by the time the announcement emerged.

The development comes only hours after Diamond's close friend and Tanzanian politician Baba Levo publicly claimed that Zuchu is expecting a child. Although the pregnancy rumours quickly spread across social media, Zuchu neither confirmed nor denied the claims in her statement, leaving fans speculating about the timing of the breakup.

Her absence during the recent birthday celebration of Diamond's mother, popularly known as Mama Dangote, had already fuelled speculation that all was not well between the couple.
Reports indicate the pair privately formalised their relationship last year after years of an on-and-off romance that frequently attracted public attention. Throughout much of their relationship, Diamond often referred to Zuchu affectionately without clearly defining their status before the reported private wedding.

This is also not the first time the two have publicly announced a breakup before later reconciling.
In February 2024, the couple stunned fans after appearing together at one of Zuchu's concerts in Zanzibar just days after another highly publicised separation. During the performance, Diamond knelt before the singer and publicly apologised for disrespecting their relationship, with an emotional Zuchu accepting his apology as fans cheered. At the time, Diamond maintained that a viral video showing him holding hands with his former partner Zari Hassan had been taken out of context, insisting it had been recorded while filming a Netflix documentary and that the two were simply co-parenting.

Over the years, Diamond's relationship with Zari has repeatedly resurfaced whenever his romance with Zuchu encountered difficulties. However, Zari has consistently dismissed suggestions that she played any role in the couple's troubles.

The Ugandan businesswoman previously said Diamond and Zuchu had longstanding issues independent of her, adding that any public appearances she made with Diamond were strictly work-related or centred on co-parenting their children. She also praised Zuchu's resilience, saying the singer had endured far more than many people realised and even described her as deserving the title of "girlfriend of the year."

The latest separation announcement has triggered widespread reactions across East Africa, with many social media users drawing comparisons to Diamond's previous high-profile relationships, particularly his breakup with Zari, which was also announced publicly online.

Others reflected on the recurring cycle of public breakups and reconciliations that has defined Diamond's love life, while some expressed hope that the pair would once again find a way back to each other.

Ironically, the breakup comes as Diamond was receiving praise online for an emotional gesture towards his mother. The award-winning singer recently surprised Mama Dangote with luxury gifts, including a diamond-studded Rolex watch reportedly worth about TSh160 million, alongside gold jewellery purchased during a trip to Dubai.

During the presentation, Diamond reflected on the sacrifices his mother made while raising him and recalled how he once secretly sold her ring to finance the recording of his first song—a decision he said changed the course of his music career.

For now, however, attention remains firmly on Zuchu's emotional announcement, with fans waiting to see whether Diamond will address the separation publicly or whether, as has happened before, the latest chapter in one of East Africa's most talked-about celebrity relationships will take another unexpected turn.
