10 POLICE OFFICERS ARRESTED IN NAKURU OVER MURDER CHARGE

Ten police officers were arrested after a mission to recover a haul of bhang from a house in London Estate, Nakuru, turned tragic when one of the locals was shot dead on Monday 9 June 2025. This was after a group of police officers tried to arrest suspected traffickers in the area. This turned confrontational with stones being hurled at the officers, who shot back, allegedly killing one local, police said.
Nakuru police commander Micheal Mwaura revealed that the police officers were questioned by detectives from the Directorate of criminal investigations as part of the investigations into the shooting of Dancun Nderitu. Mr Nderitu's killing sparked protest for the second day in Nakuru's London area.
"The police officer who shot a resident was disarmed and is among ten officers who are aiding with investigations. The incident happened when police officers who were pursuing a notorious drug peddler were engaged in a confrontation with the residents leading to the shooting. They were confronted by rowdy crowds and during the confrontation the police shot in the air trying to disperse the crowd but one of the police officers accidentally shot a resident in the head," explained Mr Mwaura.
The killing has prompted the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to begin investigations into the police officers conduct. The incident comes days after Albert Ojwang, a teacher and a blogger died under mysterious circumstances while on police custody.
