A new poll released by Mizani Africa has rocked the Coast political landscape, revealing that UDA Secretary General Hon. Hassan Omar Hassan is the clear frontrunner in the Mombasa gubernatorial race, outpacing the incumbent and setting the stage for a fierce 2027 showdown.
According to the survey, Hon. Hassan Omar commands 31.5 percent of voter support, catapulting him ahead of Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, who trails at 26.3 percent. Nyali MP Mohammed Ali alias Jicho Pevu follows with a distant 8.2 percent, while the rest of the field lags far behind. The poll was conducted with a 95 percent confidence level and a ±3 percent margin of error, cementing Omar’s rise as more than just a fluke — it is a wave.
The results have electrified Omar’s supporters and rattled his opponents, with many now acknowledging that the outspoken UDA Secretary General is on a trajectory that could return him to the helm of Mombasa politics, this time as Governor.
Political watchers credit Omar’s surge to his unmatched energy, national influence, and tireless grassroots mobilization, which have positioned him as a serious alternative to status quo leadership. As UDA Secretary General, he has been the face of the ruling coalition’s messaging, making him one of the most visible and impactful political figures in the country today.
“This is Hassan Omar’s moment,” said a senior Coast based analyst. “He is not just riding on the Kenya Kwanza wave, he is shaping it. His national stature and firm grip on coastal politics make him a formidable candidate.”
The Mizani Africa findings also reflect a growing appetite for change among Mombasa residents, with many citing the need for bold leadership, economic reform, and youth empowerment, areas where Omar has consistently been vocal and proactive.
Insiders close to the SG say plans are already underway to translate the poll momentum into a full blown grassroots campaign focused on jobs, enterprise support, port revival, and restoring dignity to Mombasa's working class.
With 2027 still ahead, this poll may be the clearest signal yet that Hassan Omar Hassan is not just back, he is on course to make history.
