2nd Mwai Kibaki Memorial Lecture Held in Nairobi

The second edition of the Mwai Kibaki Memorial Lecture was held on today at Serena Hotel in Nairobi.

The event, jointly organized by the Democratic Party of Kenya and the family of the late President, was centered on the theme "A Resilient Nation: The Mwai Kibaki Legacy."

The forum provided a platform to reflect on Kibaki’s role in shaping Kenya’s political and economic trajectory.

Esteemed speakers included Prof. Kivutha Kibwana, Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi, Prof. Peter Kagwanja, Prof. Michael Chege, and United Nations Resident Coordinator Stephen Jackson. Key topics discussed ranged from leadership and governance to regional development, constitutional reform, trade, and diplomacy.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua shared a personal memory from 1988, recalling how a young university version of himself approached then-Vice President Kibaki for help. Instead of offering money, Kibaki handed him a book titled Oil by Jonathan Black, advising him to value knowledge—a lesson Gachagua said greatly influenced his journey in business and leadership.

Launched in 2024, the annual lecture series honors President Kibaki’s enduring contribution to Kenya and seeks to inspire ongoing national dialogue on development, governance, and unity.
