Albert Ojwang’ died from head injuries, neck compression, and multiple soft tissue trauma, according to a post-mortem report released Monday. The autopsy, conducted in the presence of government pathologists, a private family-appointed expert, and civil rights observers, ruled out any possibility of self-inflicted harm — indicating he was tortured to death.
In a public statement, pathologist Dr. Bernard Midia, flanked by officials from human rights group Vocal Africa, confirmed the findings and emphasized that the nature of the injuries clearly pointed to foul play.
"The pattern of trauma is consistent with sustained assault and cannot be self-inflicted," Dr. Midia said.
The revelations have sparked national outrage, with many Kenyans on social media and in public demonstrations demanding the resignation of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG), who has been mentioned as a major suspect in Ojwang’s mysterious death.
Civil society groups are calling for an independent probe and prosecution of all individuals involved, while family members demand justice and accountability.
