BABU EXPLAINS IMPOSSIBILITIES IN IMPEACHING RUTO

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has revealed that he declined a proposal to introduce an impeachment motion against President William Ruto, saying the current structure and executive influence in Parliament makes such a move futile.

During an interview on Citizen TV on Thursday night alongside Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba and her Suba South counterpart Caroli Omondi, Babu noted that the executive holds a firm grip on the legislature, leaving little room for independent decision-making.

“In Parliament, there is nothing that you can do so long as the Speaker is in bed with the government, so long as the majority of members are in bed with the government,” he said.

The lawmaker stressed that the House has lost its independence and has become an extension of the executive, making it nearly impossible to hold the President accountable through institutional means.

He pointed out that even initiatives as significant as an impeachment motion would only play out as political theatre rather than trigger real change.

“Somebody was asking me to take a bill to Parliament to impeach the President. I said I am not a talented time waster; you will take it for optics,” Babu added.

His remarks underline a wider frustration within the opposition that Parliament is no longer acting as a true check on the executive but instead serves as a symbolic platform, with little power to challenge the government.
