KAKAMEGA – The Solyo Grounds in Shinyalu roared with excitement as Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa presided over the second edition of the Governor’s Bullfighting Extravaganza, a spectacle that drew fans and champions from across the county.
The high-stakes clash between two powerhouse bulls — Governor and Scania — had the crowd on edge, ending in a dramatic 25-minute victory for Governor. The match not only entertained but marked the beginning of a bold new vision for Kakamega’s cultural and economic future.
Governor Barasa announced plans to launch a Bullfighting Premier League, featuring top bulls from all 12 constituencies of Kakamega County. The initiative aims to institutionalize bullfighting as a major sport while promoting local tourism, job creation, and small business growth.
“Bullfighting is more than just tradition; it’s a driver of local enterprise, attracting visitors, creating jobs, and energizing our hospitality, transport, and entertainment sectors,” said Barasa.
The county is now gearing up for the August Bullfighting Bonanza, anticipated to draw even larger crowds and further position Kakamega as the bullfighting capital of Kenya.
The event was graced by Bullfighting President Ben Mululu, Members of the County Assembly, and senior county executives, signaling strong support for Barasa’s cultural and economic revival agenda.
