Candidates Shortlisted For IEBC Chairperson

The selection panel for the recruitment of nominees for the chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) releases the names of shortlisted candidates alongside the scheduled interview dates.

In a notice released today March 14, the oral interviews will take place from Monday, March 24, 2025, to Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at the College of Insurance in South C, Nairobi. The Panel announced that it has shortlisted 11 candidates out of the 37 who applied for the IEBC Chairperson position and 105 shortlisted candidates out of the 1,319 who applied for the position of members of the electoral commission.

On Monday, March 24, 2025, the first batch of candidates who will appear before the panel will include Abdulqadir Lotfi R. Hamadhan (Baringo), Anne Atemo Analo (Homa Bay), Charles Ayako Nyachae (Kisii), and Edward Katama Negwya (Trans Nzoia). Their sessions are scheduled between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm.

The second batch will be interviewed on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, and consists of Erastus Etung Ekirapa (Turkana), Francis Kaaki Kissinger (Vihiga), Jacob Ngwele Muvengei (Kitui), and Joy Brenda Masinde-Mdivo (Nairobi). Their interviews will commence at 8:30 am and conclude by 4:30 pm.

On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, the final day, the panel will interview Lillian Wanjiku Manenge (Kirinyaga), Robert Akumu Asembo (Busia), and Saul Simiyu Wasilwa (Bungoma).

Interviews for the six vacant positions of IEBC commissioners will commence on Thursday, March 27, 2025, and run until Thursday, April 24, 2025.

According to the selection panel, all shortlisted applicants must present their original national identity card or passport, along with the originals of their testimonials and certificates. They are required to provide these documents before leaving the interview venue.

Candidates must also submit current and valid clearances from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the Higher Education Loans Board, the Kenya Revenue Authority, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, and the Credit Reference Bureau. Those with foreign degrees must obtain verification from the Commission for University Education.

"We will ensure that only the most qualified and competent individuals are shortlisted and appointed to steer the commission forward." Dr Nelson Makanda, the chairperson of the selection panel, affirmed.

The panel has also invited the public to submit written memoranda on the suitability of any shortlisted candidate to serve as IEBC chairperson or member.
