CCTV footage has emerged showing the harrowing final moments of Zaitun Kavaya, a house help who died after falling from the fifth floor of an apartment block in Nairobi’s Kilimani area on September 23, 2025.
According to reports, the video shows Kavaya clinging to balcony railings and screaming for help before a man in a white shirt briefly holds her and then lets go. She is later seen moving toward lower floors, apparently struggling to find support in a section enclosed by glass panels, before plunging to her death.
Police say the 28-year-old domestic worker had been employed by a Sudanese family. Her employers claim she tried to escape following a dispute over missing money, but her relatives have dismissed the allegation and demanded a thorough investigation.
A post-mortem revealed she died from multiple injuries consistent with blunt force trauma. Detectives have arrested five Sudanese nationals as investigations continue.
The chilling footage has intensified calls for justice, with family members and rights activists urging authorities to establish whether Kavaya was pushed, coerced or acted in panic.
