A City Shuttle bus was set ablaze by angry boda boda operators on Thursday August 4, 2025, morning along Jogoo Road near the Outer Ring interchange, following a fatal accident involving one of their colleagues.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus struck and killed a boda boda rider at around 7:35 a.m. The tragic incident quickly escalated when a group of motorcyclists arrived at the scene and retaliated by setting the vehicle on fire.
Passengers were forced to flee the bus moments before flames engulfed it. No injuries were reported among the passengers. However, the incident caused a major traffic snarl-up on the busy road during peak hours.
Witnesses at the scene expressed frustration over the delayed response from emergency services, stating that firefighters and police arrived only after the bus was extensively damaged.
In a separate incident the previous night, a Super Metro bus also caught fire along Naivasha Road. Authorities are investigating the cause of both fires.
Nairobi police have launched an investigation into the Jogoo Road accident and the subsequent arson attack.
