CS MURKOMEN CRITICIZES MALALA OVER HIS INVOLVEMENT IN 'ECHOES OF WAR'

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has blasted former UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala , over his engagement in the Butere Girls drama play, entitled, Echoes of War.

Speaking in Lamu County on Thursday, April 10, Murkomen maintained that the students had the freedom to speak their minds, but wondered why Malala was the play writer.

He further explained that it was the mandate of teachers to write the play and saw no sense in politicians such as Malala being involved in that.

"Ask yourself, as a Kenyan, how is it possible that we have reached a level where a politician has become the writer of a play for students. He is using the students for politics," he said.

"Even if you look down upon the government, we know that these schools have teachers. Let politicians leave the teachers do their work and leave students out of our politics."

This play seemed to empower the youngsters towards being vocal in criticizing governmental injustices. Allegedly, the government sees this as a political instigation by Malala to incite the students and youngsters against it.

However, CS Murkomen apologized for the police lobbying teargas on journalists who were covering the drama in Nakuru on Wednesday, April 9.

"There was an unfortunate situation where a tear gas hit a journalist and it is regrettable. We apologize. It is not our intention to throw tear gas on our journalists," the CS apologized.

He also refuted arising claims , stating that the government had no intention in frustrating Butere Girls' drama play.
