CS Mutua Clears Air on Overseas Job Recruitments as Victim of Scam Gets Second Chance.

Labor Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua says, qualified job seekers have been leaving the country since last year and a group is set to leave tomorrow, Saturday, for Qatar.

This comes after a surge in media reports and public disclosure involving allegations by a few individuals claiming to have been misled during the recruitment process.

"We have witnessed disturbing cases of fraudulent messages, incitement from certain quaters and involvement of unauthorized and unregistered recruitment agents who are preying on the hopes and aspirations of young Kenyas," says Dr. Mutua.

He issued a strong warning saying such exploitation will not be tolarated.
"The ministry will not tolarate the exploitation of any Kenyas seeking honest work. We are taking decisive steps to ensure that every opportunity offered through official channel is safe, transparent and beneficial."

Mutua said, under the official government to government labour mobility program, a total of 60 job seekers will depart the country for Iraq, Qatar, Serbia, Germany and Russia on Saturday.

"Tomorrow afternoon, they will be boarding their flights not as desperate jobseekers, but as proud ambassadors of Kenya," he said.

The candidates expressed enthusiasm, they spoke passionately about the processes they have undergone from applications and interviews, to training, medical screening, and final vetting.

"We have seen the fruits because tomorrow it will be on Saturday, many people will be going abroad, the people who had applied for those jobs, be it scaffolders, steel fixers, plumbers and construction helpers and also some cleaners and drivers, " expressed one of the candidates.

"The only thing that happened, it took a long time for us to be offered those jobs. You know, this process is not like the process that we do in Kenya. You go apply for the job and the next day you are called. It has to take steps."

All youths are advised to use legit recruiters such as Malo to avoid being conned.
