DIG LAGAT OFF HOOK

Police DIG Eliud Lagat and remandee Erick Ndambuki, who were initially linked to the murder of teacher Albert Ojwang , have been cleared of the charges against them and droped from the list of murder suspects.

The announcement comes after widespread public concern over Lagat’s alleged involvement.
Following these claims, the senior police officer voluntarily stepped back from his duties and gave a detailed account to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).

In his statement, Lagat said his only interaction with the deceased was filing a formal complaint, ( for alleged indictment) and that he was shocked to hear of Ojwang’s death the next morning. He also extended his sympathies to Ojwang’s family.

According to Lagat’s lawyer, Cecil Miller, investigators found no evidence that the Deputy Inspector General had any part in the crime. Lagat’s full cooperation led IPOA to recommend that he not be charged.

Also freed from suspicion is Erick Ndambuki, a detainee who had been named as a participant in the murder. Ndambuki did not appear in court when other suspects were brought before High Court Judge Diana Mochache, and IPOA failed to find any credible evidence against him — even though Police Constable James Mukhwana had previously implicated him.

As a result, both Ndambuki and Lagat have been officially dropped from the case.

The killing of Albert Ojwang’ had sparked outrage across the country, with citizens demanding justice for the slain teacher. Even though these two suspects have been cleared, the search for those truly responsible continues.
