DIG OF POLICE ELIUD LAGAT ANNOUNCES MAJOR RESTRUCTURING IN KEY POLICE DIRECTORATES

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Eliud Lagat has announced significant changes affecting three directorates within the Kenya Police Service. The Directorate of Community Policing, previously under the leadership of Senior Assistant Inspector General (SAIG) Judy Lamet, has been split into two distinct units. Ms. Lamet, a seasoned police officer who has steadily climbed the ranks, will remain as Director of Community Policing, where she will continue focusing on enhancing collaboration between the police and the public.

A newly established unit, the Directorate of Children and Gender Protection, has been created from the former Community Policing docket. Commissioner of Police Dolly Onyango has been appointed as its head. This unit will handle all matters related to the welfare of children and women, including cases of gender-based violence and crimes against minors.

In a similar restructuring, the Directorate of Chaplaincy and Psychosocial Support has also been divided into two units. Vincent Makoha, the former head of the Chaplaincy unit, has been reassigned to police headquarters at Vigilance House. Taking over the newly created Counselling Unit is Police Chief Evelyne Njeri, a trained counsellor.

Additional leadership changes include the appointment of Clinton Kimaiyo, formerly the Deputy Head of the RECCE Unit, as the new Murang’a County Police Commander. Kimaiyo is expected to spearhead operations targeting illicit brews and the unlawful occupation of private land by criminal squatters. He replaces Benjamin Kimwele, who has been recalled to police headquarters.

In the Rift Valley region, Michael Ndiaga has been named the new Deputy Regional Police Commander. Ndiaga, who previously served at the Regional Headquarters in Nakuru, takes over from Joel Lekuta, who has been redeployed to the Logistics Department at Vigilance House.
