The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched an official investigation into allegations of bribery against Thika Law Courts Chief Magistrate Stellah Atambo.
This comes after EACC confirmed receiving several complaints accusing Chief Magistrate Atambo of demanding and accepting bribes from people facing criminal charges in her court.
Following these reports, EACC officers raided Atambo's residence, where they recovered Ksh. 2,070,000 in cash hidden inside a laptop bag. They also collected various documents believed to be linked to the investigation.
According to EACC, the magistrate had been collecting bribes from accused persons through one Patrick Njeri Muriithi who is a clerk in her court.
After the operation, Magistrate Atambo and the clerk were taken to EACC headquarters for questioning as investigations continued.
