Elderly Man Killed in Kakamega Over Suspected Land Dispute

A village in Kakamega is mourning the brutal murder of a 73-year-old man in Ikolo village, Malava constituency, following a suspected land dispute.

His wife, Marystella Ayeshe, 62, is fighting for her life at Kakamega General Hospital after suffering severe cuts and having her tongue chopped off during the attack.

According to the couple’s daughter, Rose Ititi, the assailants stormed their home around midnight, ransacked the house, and attacked the family.

Rebecca, a resident, described the deceased as a sober and family-oriented man. She also raised concerns over rising insecurity in the area.

Malava OCPD Maureen Lidava confirmed the incident and expressed regret that the wife, who could have provided crucial details, is unable to speak due to her injuries. She assured residents that police officers had been deployed to enhance security in the area.

The family claims the attack stemmed from a long-standing dispute over ancestral land. They allege that the deceased had denied his relatives access to the title deed, sparking tensions.

The late elder is survived by four wives and 34 children.
