GITURA RESIGNS OVER DIFFERENCES WITH RUTO

Former Murang’a Senator Kembi Gitura has resigned from his position as chairperson of the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) board, less than a year after his appointment, due to political differences with President Ruto.

In a letter dated August 26, Gitura explained that although the role was not political, remaining in it risked creating the impression that he supported the Kenya Kwanza administration. He said this would be misleading, as he has never been a supporter of President William Ruto’s government.

Gitura, who was gazetted to the board on December 20, 2024, added that his decision was guided by the need to be truthful with Kenyans, especially as the country moves toward the 2027 elections.

He praised KUTRRH for the progress it has made in providing specialized treatment and reducing the need for Kenyans to seek medical care abroad, but noted that his resignation was a matter of principle rather than performance.

The Ministry of Health had not responded to his exit by the time of going to press.
