The government today held a pre-launch event for the National Irrigation Sector Investment Plan (NISIP), setting the stage for its official launch tomorrow, March 21, 2025, in Nairobi
NISIP is a strategic 10-year plan aimed at expanding and optimizing irrigation to enhance food security, climate resilience, and economic growth.
The initiative aligns with Kenya Vision 2030, the National Irrigation Policy (2017), and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Officials emphasized that the plan seeks to develop 1.5 million acres of irrigated land by 2030, addressing the fact that only 21% of Kenya’s irrigation potential is currently utilized.
At today’s event, government representatives and stakeholders discussed the investment pathways, policy framework, and expected impact of NISIP.
The plan focuses on expanding irrigation infrastructure, improving water storage and efficiency, increasing agricultural productivity, and attracting private sector investment.
With the official launch set for tomorrow, attention now shifts to the next steps in securing investments and accelerating implementation to transform Kenya’s irrigation sector.
