The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has temporarily closed its online loan application portal for a period of three days to allow for system maintenance and service upgrades. The closure, which began on Thursday, July 3, is expected to last for 72 hours, with services resuming on or before Monday, July 7, 2025.
In a statement, HELB assured applicants that the move is aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the Higher Education Financing (HEF) portal to ensure a smoother experience for all users. The temporary shutdown affects both first-time and continuing students applying for loans and scholarships for the 2025/2026 academic year.
Despite the brief interruption, the application deadline remains unchanged and will still close on August 31, 2025.
Students are advised to use this downtime to prepare the necessary documents and stay updated for the resumption of portal services. Once reopened, applications can be submitted through portal.hef.co.ke.
