GOVERNMENT REDUCES UNIVERSITY FEES STARTING SEPTEMBER

The government has announced a significant reduction in tuition fees for public universities, effective from September 1, 2025, in a move aimed at easing the financial burden on students and families.
According to the Ministry of Education, the revised fees will apply to both new and continuing students across all academic programmes. Higher Education and Research Principal Secretary Dr. Beatrice Inyangala said the decision follows consultations with education stakeholders and is part of ongoing reforms to make university education more affordable and accessible.
The fee cut aligns with the Student-Centered Funding Model, which categorizes students based on financial need and academic performance. Universities have been directed to update their admissions and finance portals to reflect the new rates ahead of the upcoming academic year.
Dr. Inyangala affirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that no eligible student is denied access to higher education due to lack of fees. Additional support through scholarships and HELB loans will continue to supplement the revised fee structure.
