GOVERNMENT ROLLS OUT MASS SECOND TERM HIGH SCHOOL BASED NATIONAL ID REGISTRATION EXERCISE FOR SECONDARY STUDENTS

The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services, has officially rolled out the Second Term School Based National ID Registration Exercise, running from May to August 2025.

The initiative targets all eligible secondary school students aged 18 and above, aiming to ease the process of acquiring National Identity Cards within school premises. The government hopes the exercise will enhance access to tertiary education, employment opportunities, and financial services such as the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) funding.

In this joint venture, school principals and their deputies will serve as identification agents, working closely with National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) to ensure a smooth and efficient process.

The government has emphasized the importance of this exercise in empowering youth with legal identification, a critical requirement for national development and full participation in civic and economic life.
