Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has finally shifted to solar energy following a prolonged dispute with Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC).
This decision comes after months of power supply issues and billing disputes between City Hall and KPLC.
According to reports, City Hall has installed high-capacity solar panels to power vital operations, thus reducing dependence on KPLC.
This standoff between these two organs, has raised concerns about the role of KPLC as a monopoly, in Kenya's energy sector. This may perhaps be the genesis of a widespread transition from dependence on KPLC, to adoption of cheaper and flexible alternatives like solar.
