HEALING TURNS TRAGIC: TWO DEAD, 57 RESCUED FROM RONGO CHURCH

Police have rescued 57 sick individuals who were seeking healing at the controversial Melkio Joseph Mission Messiah Church in Rongo. The operation, led by Rongo Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner George Matundura, took place on Monday night and resulted in the suspension of all religious activities at the premises.

According to Matundura, the action was triggered by the deaths of two people at the church in the past week. “We are taking the necessary legal measures, and the church is now under constant police surveillance,” he said.

Tensions escalated earlier in the day when a family from Nyamira County stormed the church, demanding the body of a relative who had died there. They accused the church, with support from the deceased's daughter—who has reportedly lived at the church for more than ten years—of planning to bury him at the church compound.

The daughter, Jacita Achieng, claimed her father had stated in his will that he wished to be buried at the church.
