Cabinet Secretary for Interior Kipchumba Murkomen has revealed wide-ranging reforms to the process of obtaining identity cards, birth certificates, and death certificates.
During the Homa Bay International Identity Day celebration on Tuesday, September 16, Murkomen ordered the immediate removal of authentication fees on birth certificates for the purposes of applying for IDs and passports.
The CS further stated eliminating the authentication fee would eliminate the unnecessary fiscal barriers and be in accordance with the government's vision of simplifying access to national identity cards.
He also announced plans to render the first issuance of certificates for birth and death free of charge, so all babies born in Kenya are registered irrespective of money or where they are born.
