Kenya (LSK), accusing the organization of siding with suspects linked to violent protests rather than supporting Kenyans who have suffered losses. Speaking in Eldoret during the launch of the Jukwaa La Usalama public engagement forum in Uasin Gishu County, Murkomen defended the government’s move to pursue terrorism charges against those accused of orchestrating violence. He warned that the state would not back down in its pursuit for justice. The CS also urged the Judiciary not to be pressured into granting lenient bail terms to individuals facing such charges, emphasizing that the safety of law abiding citizens must come first.
He also took issue with LSK President Faith Odhiambo, accusing her of overstepping by questioning the strength of the government’s evidence in court. He called on Odhiambo to uphold the rule of law, which includes allowing suspects to face trial in court rather than making premature public judgements. The CS expressed disappointment that LSK and the Opposition had not supported government efforts to ensure peaceful demonstrations. “I expected LSK and the Opposition to back our initiatives so that future protests can remain peaceful,” he said.
Additionally, Murkomen took a swipe at former Public Service CS Justin Muturi, reminding him that he presided over the passage of the Prevention of Terrorism Act during his tenure as National Assembly Speaker. “Muturi should use his experience to advise those allegedly sponsoring violence,” he said. The Interior CS reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order, warning that those inciting chaos would face the full force of the law.
