INTERNAL SECURITY PS ASSISTS PARTIALLY BLIND WIDOW THROUGH  WIDOWS EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM

Through his Widows Empowerment Program, Internal Security Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo has extended life changing support to Roselida Atieno, a 73-year old partially blind widow from Sota Kochia village in Rangwe Constituency, Homa Bay County. The initiative saw Mama Roselida receive a newly constructed modern house and medical assistance that restored her sight. Before the intervention, Roselida lived in a dilapidated structure with a leaking roof and had endured years of hardship. Having lost all 10 of her children, she faced not only emotional devastation but also lived in near total blindness for the past three years. Despite her challenges, she remained dignified and was surrounded by fellow widows who provided her with companionship and support.

The program facilitates eye surgery that significantly improved her vision and gave her a new, dignified place to call home. Her caregiver, Edwina Okomba, shared that Roselida had cataracts in both eyes when they first visited her. Medical examinations confirmed the condition was operable. Due to unstable eye pressure, only one eye could be operated on at a time. Beyond physical support, the Widows Empowerment Program addressed the emotional and social challenges Roselida faced. Edwina speaking on behalf of the Tang Chon Ber widows from Kochia, expressed deep appreciation to the PS, noting that his act of kindness had brought light, joy, and hope to the entire community.

 The Widows Empowerment Program operates across Kenya with a mission to uplift vulnerable widows through economic and social support. It aims to restore dignity, build resilience, and promote self-reliance among widows who face economic hardship, legal challenges, and economic difficulties.
