JOHNSON MUTHAMA WARNS AGAINST TRIBALISM

Former senator Johnson Muthama has pointed out Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and other politicians in a bid to red-flag their support for tribal alliances in the face of the upcoming General elections in 2027.

Muthama, who is also a member of PSC, Sunday in Kwale County called on leaders not to base politics on ethnicity but to direct their energies towards working for unity and development in this country.

He said that political culture in the country of Kenya has been increasingly shaped by argumentative talk and hostility which ends up getting its way via public forums and social media sites. ‘My stance in the nation of Kenya is not an endorsement of tribal or community-based governance,’ Muthama explained.

Muthama stated that no single tribe can dictate the future president because, in reality, the national leaders are a product of the collective will of all Kenyans.

"Kenyas is a big country, and it is not Kikuyu votes which make a president, it is not Kamba votes which make a president; it is the votes of Kenyans," he stated.

Muthama mentioned former governments, stating that former presidents Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel arap Moi, Mwai Kibaki, and Uhuru Kenyatta were elected because of support from Kenyans and not because of tribalism.

He appealed to these politicians to be, especially those with already established plans for 2027, to turn their backs on politics of tribalism and instead focus on building a new national coalition.

On 30th November, the ex-deputy president Rigathi Gachagua announced a political affiliation between the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) and Wiper, stating that they had already reached an agreement to have shared candidates in the elections for the positions of Governor, Senator, and Women Representative in 2027, as well as in a majority of parliament and constituency seats.

Gachagua added, "And we have agreed that we will take 16 parliamentary seats out of 17, while DCP and Wiper will take 75 out of 85 ward seats."

However, Musyoka later disputed these claims, stating that such an understanding did not exist between Wiper and DCP.
