JOYCE GITURO APOLOGIZES AFTER BACKLASH FOR DEFENDING EXPELLED PASTOR

Veteran media personality Joyce Gituro has issued a public apology following widespread backlash over her social media remarks defending Reverend Munengi Mulandi, the former Senior Pastor of Nairobi Baptist Church who was expelled over misconduct allegations.
Gituro had initially questioned the church’s decision to make the matter public, saying, “So, why put it on social media? You’re damaging a brother more!!” Her comment sparked outrage, with many Kenyans accusing her of being insensitive to possible victims.
In a statement released Tuesday August 5, 2025, Gituro admitted that she had spoken without full knowledge of the issue. “I shared a comment yesterday, unaware of the full and serious nature of the pastor’s suspension. I assumed it was an internal disciplinary matter,” she said.
She further clarified her position, stating: “Let me be clear: I stand firmly against all forms of abuse, especially as a mother and a Christian. I totally regret my fast reaction to that story.”
Reverend Mulandi was dismissed by Nairobi Baptist Church on June 1, 2025, following an internal investigation into what the church termed “serious allegations of misconduct.” The Elders’ Council also revoked his ordination, expressing concern for those affected.
Gituro’s apology has drawn mixed reactions, with some accepting her remorse while others urging public figures to exercise caution before commenting on sensitive matters.
