JUJA MP GEORGE KOIMBURI CHARGED OVER STAGED ABDUCTION AND FALSE CLAIMS

Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi has been charged with conspiracy to obstruct justice by allegedly orchestrating his own abduction, as well as violating the Cybercrime Act by spreading false information. The Charges follow his public statements from Karen Hospital, where he claimed to have been kidnapped. Kiomburi appeared at the Milimani Law Courts on the afternoon of Wednesday July 23, 2025, looking frail and walking with difficulty as his two aides assisted him. He pleaded not guilty to both counts before Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi. The MP requested bail, stating, “I urge this court to release me on bond so I can attend a medical appointment at Karen Hospital. I am not a flight risk and missed my earlier court appearance due to illness.”

The prosecution led by state counsels Victor Owiti and Norah Awiti, did not oppose his bail request. He was granted release on a Ksh300,000 cash bail and was directed to report to the investigating officer for fingerprinting. Two weeks ago, four other individuals linked to the case were charged with the same offenses. They include Kanyenya Ward MCA Grace Nduta, Peter Kiratu Mbari, David Macharia Gatana, and Cyrus Muhia. The prosecution alleges that on May 25, 2025, in Mugutha, Juja, they conspired to stage Koimburi’s abduction to prevent his arrest and scheduled court appearance in a land fraud case. Koimburi and Peter Kiratu also face additional charges for publishing false information.

The MP is accusing of posting a press release on his YouTube channel on June 7, 2025, claiming he had been abducted and tortured, allegations he knew were untrue. Kiratu, meanwhile is accused of falsely reporting to Mugutha Police Station that Koimburi had been kidnapped by masked men after a church service, leading officers to record the fabricated incident. Magistrate Ekhubi upheld the existing bail terms but required the accused to provide three contact persons as additional surety. The court also directed police to complete investigations into vehicles seized in the case, which reportedly contained chequebooks and title deeds. The case will be mentioned on August 5, 2025, for pre-trial directions.
