Kalonzo and Raila Crucial Meeting on Azimio La Umoja

The political landscape in Kenya is heating up as Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga prepare for a crucial meeting.
The two leaders are expected to discuss the future of the Azimio La Umoja coalition and whether they will work together in the 2027 general election.

The meeting, however, has not been welcomed by all within the opposition ranks. Opiyo Wandayi, the Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum and a close Raila ally, has dismissed the discussions, accusing Kalonzo of benefiting from Raila’s struggles while undermining his political efforts.

Speaking to supporters, Wandayi made it clear that he and his allies had chosen to work with President William Ruto, leaving no room for what he termed as political confusion.

"There is a problem. Kalonzo must leave us alone. We are still hurting as a people. We have made a conscious decision to work with President William Ruto. Kalonzo and his ilk should leave us alone," Wandayi stated.

He insisted that there were only two major political formations in the country: those working with President Ruto and those in opposition.

"The way things are moving now, there are two political formations. Either you are in the broad-based formation that I belong to, or Wamunyoro. There is no third way. Kalonzo should not confuse us. Just declare where you stand so we can know how to handle you," he added.

Wandayi’s remarks highlight the deepening divisions within Azimio La Umoja as Raila and Kalonzo prepare to meet.

The outcome of their talks could have significant implications for the 2027 elections, particularly in shaping the opposition’s strategy against Ruto’s administration.
