Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani has officially been selected to host the final match of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), now scheduled for August 2025. The decision comes as Kenya, alongside co-hosts Uganda and Tanzania, intensifies preparations for the continental football tournament reserved for players featuring in their domestic leagues.
Kasarani Stadium, one of Kenya's largest and most iconic sporting venues, has undergone major renovations in recent months to meet Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards. These upgrades include new roofing, improved floodlights, a refurbished pitch, modernized seating, VIP areas, and enhanced media facilities. The changes not only prepare the stadium for CHAN but also position it as a key venue for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which the East African trio will also co-host.
Officials from Kenya’s Ministry of Sports have expressed confidence that the stadium will be fully ready to host the CHAN final in time. The event is seen as a crucial opportunity for Kenya to showcase its capacity to organize major international football tournaments ahead of AFCON 2027.
Sports Principal Secretary Peter Tum affirmed that all renovations at Kasarani are on track and CAF inspections have shown positive progress. Hosting the CHAN final will serve as a dry run for logistical operations, crowd management, broadcasting capabilities, and security protocols.
The African Nations Championship is a unique tournament that celebrates local talent by limiting participation to players actively competing in their country's national leagues. With football fans across the continent expected to turn their attention to East Africa in August, all eyes will be on Kasarani Stadium as it prepares to crown the 2024 CHAN champion and signal Kenya’s readiness for even bigger sporting stages.
