KDF VEHICLE HITS IED, LEAVES SEVERAL DEAD IN LAMU

A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) vehicle struck an improvised explosive device (IED) on Tuesday morning in the Boni Forest area of Lamu County, killing several soldiers and injuring others in a suspected terrorist attack.
According to security sources, the KDF convoy was on a routine patrol near Milimani when the explosion occurred. The blast is believed to have been planted by al-Shabaab militants who have been active in the region.
Emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene to evacuate the injured. The exact number of fatalities is yet to be confirmed, but preliminary reports indicate multiple casualties.
Military officials have condemned the attack and vowed to intensify operations against terror elements in the region. “We will not be cowed by these acts of cowardice,” said one senior officer who requested anonymity.
The area has since been cordoned off as investigations and search operations continue.
This incident is the latest in a string of IED attacks targeting security forces operating in the troubled coastal region, which borders Somalia.
