KENYA FINED KSH 6.5 MILLION OVER SAFETY LAPSES DURING CHAN MATCH AGAINST MOROCCO

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined Kenya Ksh 6.5 million ($50,000) for multiple safety and security breaches during their African Nations Championship (CHAN) match against Morocco at Kasarani Stadium on August 10, 2025.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the CAF Disciplinary Board said the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) was found guilty of failing to meet the required safety measures at the Moi International Sports Centre. The breaches, which CAF did not specify in detail, occurred during the TotalEnergies CAF CHAN fixture and raised concerns over Kenya’s compliance with continental football safety standards.

CAF also warned that repeated failures could force the relocation of Kenya’s home fixtures to Uganda or Tanzania. The governing body urged FKF to bolster security by deploying more personnel inside the stadium and strictly enforcing road closures on match days.

The FKF has yet to issue an official response to the fine or the warning, which has drawn sharp attention to the country’s match-day safety protocols.
