KENYA MET DEPARTMENT LISTS AREAS TO RECEIVE RAINFALL IN FIRST WEEK OF SEPTEMBER

The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced that several parts of the country will receive rainfall during the first week of September 2025.
According to the forecast, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley such as Kisumu, Kakamega, Kericho, Nakuru, and Narok are expected to experience consistent showers and thunderstorms. The Central Highlands, including Nyeri, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Embu, Meru, and Nyandarua, as well as Nairobi County, are likely to receive intermittent afternoon showers and cloudy mornings.
The South-Eastern Lowlands, covering Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, will generally remain sunny and dry with occasional cloud cover. Along the Coast—Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale—residents may experience morning and evening showers, with sunny intervals expected during the day.
The Met Department has further cautioned of chilly nights in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, where temperatures could drop below 10°C, especially in areas around Nyahururu. Strong winds of more than 25 knots are also expected in parts of the Coast, North-Eastern, and South-Eastern regions.
Residents in areas expecting rainfall have been urged to remain alert to localized flooding risks, while farmers have been advised to take advantage of the rains to boost food production.
